DJ Swerve feat. ZuP, Veeno & Patrenzo Kennedy – NOWHERE2GO

Last year, Swerve delivered a dope mixtape Sid & Friends that featured many up and coming artists from Northeast Ohio. Well, he is now preparing for his sophomore release with the first single off that, “NOWHERE2GO,” dropping April 9th.

While Swerve has DJ’d many of our shows over the last six months, I have to say that I love his mixtape concept and execution. He takes it back to the Clue and KaySlay type tapes where the DJ was doing a lot of A&Ring and production of the record itself. Mick Boogie also does this a lot on his original projects. I think it makes for a better product overall, and I am looking forward to hearing what Swerve cooked up with his vision this time around.

Check out his debut effort, Sid & Friends now!

SPITGAME – #ICANMAKEYOSH**TIGHTER

Wondering what happened to all the true old school mixtapes? You know the ones where an artist finds the best industry beats and roughs them the fuck up? Yeah, me too. Part of it is probably that most artists these days don’t have the skill to improve upon the original, but finally, we get an artist who absolutely owns these type of industry records.

Who could it be you ask? Look no further than Zipsquad’s own SPITGAME. The homie goes nuts over some of the illest instrumentals he could find, and as the title suggests, he makes the originals tighter! Give this tape a chance. I can promise you will be wholly impressed with the bars, you know, the shit that used to make an artist standout.

Video: Aaron Evans feat. Generik – We All Work [A Trolley Show]

Haven’t checked in since Terry dropped the tape below.

Glad to be back for this reason: Aaron Evans graces us with one of the most organic hip-hop videos and ideas I have seen of late. Man, this is the essence of the craft. As you will see, Evans hits the trolleys in San Diego for a live performance and just kills it! While some people were skeptical at first, but as music can do, Evans uses it as a tool to unite the people of San Diego that evening.

Ballsy and live. I like it.

Terry Urban – Born Ready To Die (Lana Del Rey vs. Notorious B.I.G.)

Back to back posts featuring SoulKlap production? Why not!

This time we get an incredibly special project from the homie and mixtape king Terry Urban who gathered some ill producers (Double 0 of Kidz in the Hall, 6th Sense, CJ Luzi, nVMe, etc…) to execute his creative concept, Lana Del Ray x Christopher Wallace. The tape is rather obviously in honor of the 15th anniversary of the Notorious one’s passing.

We are grateful once again as Soul graces us with two production credits on this joint! It has been an incredible blessing that Mick and Terry reached out to our camp, and we literally had a part in projects with my three favorite artists of all-time (Jay and Kanye with Mick and The Blue Throne project and now Biggie with Terry!!!) Unreal!

We also get another northeast Ohio connect on here with nVMe, whose three man production crew includes the homie Vito from Youngstown.

If you aren’t familiar with Lana, please definitely check this tape out because it’s a really interesting mash-up, and as Terry says, the project is “dark and mysterious… soulful and gritty.” And that is only a good thing! Download this now and jam the fuck out!

KeilyN – Timing

After the success of his 2011 debut album, My Pursuit of Happyness, Ohio newcomer KeilyN is back to deliver his sophomore project, Timing. Timing addresses KeilyN’s perspective on personal and social issues with honesty and sincerity over eclectic production, while showing growth in his songwriting and delivery. Laced with original production from the likes SoulKlap (The Blue Throne by Mick Boogie & SoulKlap), Al Smith and 1RDT to name a few, on Timing, KeilyN also pays homage to the great J Dilla by spitting heart felt flows over several brilliant Jay Dee instrumentals.

Be on the lookout for the official video to his lead single off Timing, ‘Dope Boy,’ coming soon!
