Fresh Out The Box

Weezy on the cover of Rolling Stone.¬† It must be strange to go straight to a photo shoot as soon as you walk out the pen.¬† Can somebody please tell me why they used that quote next to his right arm for the cover?¬† I mean, I’m sure its out of context, but def NOT a good look.¬† SMH.

NYC Time Lapse Video

Here we have some stunning visual work from videographer Mindrelic.  This video is a time lapse piece of New York City, and includes many recognizable locations within.  Extremely dope work, and you know we love all things unique.  Enjoy!

Props to the beast.

Rick Ross & Wiz Khalifa – The Source

The Source closes out the year with their various awards.¬† Pictured, you see Ross as Man of the Year (which could REALLY be Jay-Z every year) and Wiz as Rookie of the Year.¬† Honestly, I have no problem with these choices. As I’ve said before, I don’t really listen to Ross so much, but I think he does make quality music.¬† Just a personal preference, I guess.

As for Wiz…. if I didn’t know any better, I would probably think Snoop made a trip out to the Burgh back in ’88 and dropped off a seed or two.¬† For real though, props to Khalifa for bringing some much needed freshness to the game.¬† Oh yea, and check out our interview with the kid along the right-hand column.

The Rap Camp Rules

I know the big homie JayUp posted the Complex article earlier, but I wanted to highlight some great photos that were taken by frequent Yeezy collaborator Nabil Elderkin during that session that can be found here. I wanted to expand on one specific photo from their camp that was kind of hilarious ¬†and dope to me at the same time. The rules of Rap Camp as seen in the picture above are as follows…

1. No Tweeting

2. No Hipster Hats (?????)

3. All Laptops on Mute

4. Just Shut the Fuck Up Sometimes (My personal favorite)

5. No Blogging

6. No Negative Blog Viewing

7. Don’t Tell Anyone Anything About Anything We Are Doing (ala Fight Club)

8. Total Focus on This Project In All Studios

9. No Lacking (sp) Focus While Music is Being Played or Being Made

10. No Acoustic Guitar in the Studios

11. No Pictures

I may begin to take this approach at my job. Especially number four. Play on playas.

Kanye West – Complex Cover

Kanye appears on the December/January cover of Complex.¬† For the feature story, we get an interesting peak inside Ye’s¬†all-star get-together¬†in Hawaii.¬† Complex Editor-In-Chief, Noah Callahan-Bever provides the details.

The sun sets, and Q-Tip and Consequence arrive, straight from the plane. Kanye asks RZA if he’d voice the hook—”Champagne wishes and 30 white bitches/You know the shit is, fuckin’ ridic’lous”—and the Abbott steps into the booth and obliges, immediately transforming from sedate and stoned to amped and aggressive. It’s enough to make us all chuckle on his first take; wrapped around those words, his thick and bizarre drawl just sounds so perfectly…RZA. But Kanye notices something off in the delivery, and he presses the intercom button to talk to RZA: “Um, fam, it’s actually ‘thirty white bitches,’ not ‘dirty white bitches.’” RZA laughs. “I’ll do it again,” he says, “but to be real, the way I be saying words, you ain’t gon’ be able to tell the difference.” Ha! At Rap Camp, the shit is fuckin’ ridiculous.

This is how things should be.¬† Major players in the music industry coming together for a major brainstorming session on America’s finest beaches.¬† Artists included were Cudi, RZA, TI, Q-Tip, Pusha T, and Consequence.¬† Talk about inspiration.¬† Check out the full story HERE.

Dr. Dre – XXL December/January Cover

Damn, I’m mad I missed this.¬† Another Dre sighting.¬† I have to apologize because I somehow ended up in Amsterdam with MK for about 4 days, and just about everything in my life went out the window…or up in smoke.¬† I highly recommend travelling to the Dam if you get the chance.¬† There’s nothing like getting lost in a foreign city and accidentally finding the Red Light District.¬†

As for Dre, is it just me, or does he look like he’s been suffering from Barry Bonds head inflation?¬† I had my suspitions about Dre getting on the cream and the clear (or HGH) when I saw him make a guest appearance at one of those award shows a few years back.¬† I mean, the dude was JACKED.¬† This photo only heightens my curiosity.¬† Let’s hope he put in the same work at the studio as he did in the gym.

A Great Weekend in Paris

This past weekend I had the chance to bounce from London for a hot minute and head down to Paris. Great experience. It was my second time there, but my first was a decade ago. It’s crazy the perspective you have when you are a little older and can appreciate things more. The greatest part was that we went with a good Parisian friend of mine so we were able to experience the local culture at its finest. We ate two meals with his family and it was so RAWSE!

The French like to have nice relaxing lunches which is madd dope. So, I wake up after a Friday night of drinking having never met my buddy’s parents yet (mind you…they speak FRENCH! and I don’t speak much French), and the first thing I see is bottles of booze everywhere. They begin their meals with an aperitif, better known as…BOOZE. So I start the day with a glass of Scotch whiskey, some good bread and homemade pate (minced liver, cognac and butter). We move on to the main lunch which was served with a bunch of cold meats like salami, capiocola and ham. The main dish was a potato base with ham, cheese and white wine throughout then topped off with a layer of cheese. AMAZING. We had wine and more bread throughout the meal, then everything topped off with a chocolate cake. Ish was the bomb. I will post more pics soon cause my words probably don’t do this justice.
